Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Pratima Bhowmik visited Tulasikha block in Tripura’s Khowai district where violence was reported during a meeting of BJP Janajati Morcha on Saturday.
After her interaction with the eyewitness, Union Minister while interacting with the media termed Saturday’s incident as unfortunate.
Bhowmik alleged that the TIPRA Motha speaks for ‘thangsa’ or unity of the indigenous people but on the contrary they are using it for political gain is utilising the tribal section of people.
Bhowmik further added that in the last one year, after the TIPRA Motha has come to power in the TTAADC, its supporters have been attacking its own people from the community.
Union Minister Pratima Bhowmik was accompanied by BJP’s Chief Whip Kalyani Roy, MLA Pinaki Das Chowdhury and other senior BJP leaders of the state.
What happened on Saturday?
On saturday , during the meeting of BJP Janajati Morcha in the Tulasikha block, TIPRA Motha supporters allegedly attacked supporters of the BJP in which several of them from the ruling party were injured.
Two BJP supporters had to be hospitalised as their injuries were grave besides damages to vehicles.
It may be mentioned here that this is the second incident of political violence between the BJP and TIPRA Motha in less than 20 days.
Earlier at Mandwai in West Tripura district, TIPRA Motha supporters allegedly burnt down chairs, tables, documents, flags and posters of a BJP party office.
What needs to be highlighted here is that the incidents of political violence becoming more rampant as the Tripura Assembly Elections are getting closer as both the BJP as well as the TIPRA Motha want to dominate the tribal areas, something vital for Government formation.
