Though barely months to go for the Tripura Assembly polls, response from people is good, confident of good results, says Biswas
Two months ahead of Tripura assembly elections, former state Congress president Pijush Kanti Biswas was today named as the new state chief of Trinamool Congress party.
After resigning from the Congress last year, Biswas had floated a regional party Tripura Democratic Front (TDF) before shifting to TMC.
Speaking to reporters here this afternoon in Agartala, TMC general secretary and co in-charge Rajib Banerjee informed about the decision to make Biswas the new state president of Trinamool Congress.
Rajib Banerjee and Sushmita Dev, who ran the party’s affairs in Tripura as co in-charge since August this year, today said all responsibilities of the party would be reposed on the new president.
In his first media briefing at the party’s state headquarters here today, Pijush Kanti Biswas said he joined Trinamool Congress since he feels it is the only party that can defeat BJP in Tripura.
Biswas said that he had met Mamata Banerjee in New Delhi. She is committed towards reviving democracy and protecting the Constitution in Tripura and oust the BJP-led government from the state.
The newly appointed TMC state president said though barely 2.5 months are left to go to the polls, he is receiving good response from the people and is confident of “securing good results” and winning assembly elections scheduled early next year.
Stating that people are fed up with the ruling BJP, which gave lofty promises in 2018 but those not fulfilled. Biswas alleged huge violence and no development during BJP regime in Tripura and people want to oust BJP.
On alliance prospects with other opposition parties, Pijush Kanti Biswas said no alliance would be formed without interests of people in mind. Regarding his previous party Biswas said that Congress has become irrelevant due to personal activities. On the CPIM Congress alliance he said that hundreds of Congress supporters were victims of the communists’ atrocities during their 25 years’ rule and now a section of Congress leaders are trying to form alliances and for their personal interests. He added that Congress leaders here are fighting for personal interests and people don’t believe them and Trinamool is the only party that can give liberty to the people of Tripura from the misrule of BJP.
