TIPRA Motha supremo Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, who had been out of Tripura since the second phase of elections reportedly due to health issues, returned to Agartala on Monday, a day ahead of the poll counting.
Addressing reporters, Debbarma refrained from commenting on exit poll predictions but said development and democracy should continue whatever bethe result.
He stated, “The results will be out in less than 24 hours. There is no problem to wait for 14-15 hours for the results to be out. The nation has to progress in the path of democracy. I convey my wishes to the Opposition and at the same time to our partners (BJP, IPFT). Whatever be the results in Tripura, there must be no violence, we brothers must not fight amongst ourselves in the name of politics.”
Debbarma, also the royal scion of Tripura, extended his advance wishes to both the opposition INDIA Block and his alliance partner, the BJP-led NDA, expressing hope that the post-results period would remain violence free and peaceful in Tripura.
TIPRA Motha, primarily a tribal-based was the Opposition party, recently joined the BJP-led government in Tripura following signing a tripartite MoU aimed at the socio-cultural and economic development of the indigenous population.
Although it was initially expected that TIPRA Motha would contest from the ST-reserved Tripura East parliamentary constituency under a seat-sharing agreement with the BJP, the party did not field a candidate.
Instead, Pradyot’s elder sister, Maharani Kriti Devi Singh, contested the seat with a BJP ticket and TIPRA Motha’s support.
