3 Rohingyas were apprehended by the Border Security Force (BSF) from the Dharmanagar railway station last night. The 3 Rohingyas had entered India illegally through the porous international border. The trio were handed over to the Tripura Police at the Dharmanaga PS.
The 3 Rohingyas have been identified as Md Nasir, Md Ismail and Mahmud Rafique Molla. Further interrogation of the trio is underway.
It may be mentioned that in February this year as many as 16 people including 12 foreign nationals were detained by the Railway Police Force (RPF) at Agartala railway station, for illegally entering India. Among these included 10 Rohingyas and 2 Bangladeshis.
Earlier on Friday, in a key strategic meeting BSF Director General Dr Sujoy Lal Thaosen visited Tripura to review security and operational preparedness of the Tripura Frontiers on the Indo-Bangladesh border and met the Bangladesh Border Guards (BGB) Regional Commander of Sarail at Akhaura Integrated Check Post (ICP).
Worth mentioning, Rohingyas use the Tripura corridor of the India- Bangladesh border to enter India from the neighbouring country.
In October 2017, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had ordered all state governments to identify and monitor Rohingya refugees.
The MHA had said the Centre viewed infiltration of Rohingyas from Rakhine state of Myanmar into Indian territory as a burden on the country’s resources and it aggravated security challenges to the country.
