Greater Tipraland demand: HM Amit Shah assures solution to TIPRA Motha, says Pradyot

Is the Centre mulling to give its nod to the core demand of TIPRA Motha?

TIPRA Motha leader Pradyot Kishore Debbarma in an exclusive conversation with Northeast Live shared the details pertaining to his meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah last Saturday. The Tripura Royal scion in a significant statement, stated that Amit Shah has assured for a solution.

“I met him (Home Minister Shah) on Saturday and we have discussed on the Constitutional Rights and our core demand of the indigenous people of Tripura. We had a meeting on that. This is in continuance to our talks with AK Mishra, who was also handling our talks earlier and had an official meeting.

So in continuance to that the Home Minister has met me and assured me that a solution for the indigenous people would be made in the near future, that what he has assured,” Debbarma told Northeast Live.

Underscoring his party’s priority to safeguard the indigenous people, Pradyot Debbarma also reiterated about the TIPRA Motha’s stand on carving out a separate state from Tripura.

Expressing his views Debbarma stated, “We are firm on our demand because we believe that only a separate state would be a solution That is our thingking because a separate state would be logical for the survival and existence of the indigenous people.”

However, Pradyot Debbarma stated that TIPRA Motha is open for discussions, if the Centre comes up with a better idea. “If the Government of India has a better idea they can present that to us, we will go and discuss it democratically, not only within our party but also with the Samajpatis (village heads) as well as amongst the various organisations and then come with the best solution for the future, survival, existence of indigenous people of Tripura.”

Earlier, in April the Centre had appointed AK Mishra as the interlocutor for holding talks with TIPRA Motha on their demand for a constitutional solution.

On July 2, Pradyot Debbarma after holding a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah had said that the central government will soon start the process of discussions on the demands for Greater Tipraland. Towards the end of July, AK Mishra reportedly held a series of discussions with TIPRA Motha to pursue the matter.
