A crucial round of talks between the Tipra Motha and the Government of India will be held in Agartala tomorrow that may finally set the foundation for an agreement between the two sides. New Delhi’ s interlocutor AK Misra has arrived in Agartala today for the meeting that will start at 9.30 am tomorrow.
The Tipra Motha, under the leadership of its founder and royal scion Pradyot Debbarma, has been demanding maximum autonomy under the constitution for the Tiprasa tribes people in the state.
Tipra Motha leaders held a formal round of meeting with union Home minister Amit Shah in New Delhi in September and tomorrow’ s meeting is seen as a follow up of that and could even be the last round of official level talks. A final round of talks is likely between the Motha and Home minister Amit Shah before a deal is signed.
A 15-member Motha delegation led by Pradyut Debbarma will go through a pre-final draft of the agreement in tomorrow ‘ s meeting.
In July this year the TIPRA Motha leadership led by Pradyot Debbarma had held the first round of formal talks with interlocutor AK Mishra, who is also the Special Adviser, Ministry of Home Affairs.
