The state government will cover the costs and offer financial assistance to the parents," CM Manik Saha stated.
Chief Minister Manik Saha today announced that the Tripura government has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with various private hospitals including Apollo Chennai to provide free treatment for children born with heart disease.
Speaking at the state-level launch of the ‘Stop Diarrhoea Campaign’ at Pragna Bhawan, the Chief Minister revealed that the MoU was signed on May 10. Under this agreement, children suffering from heart disease will receive free treatment at Apollo Hospital in Chennai.
“In addition to Apollo Chennai, our government medical college, Medica Hospital in Kolkata, and Shija Hospitals and Research Institute in Manipur will also provide free treatment for babies born with heart diseases. The state government will cover the costs and offer financial assistance to the parents,” Saha stated.
The Chief Minister also highlighted that as part of the Stop Diarrhoea Campaign, children aged 0-5 years will receive oral rehydration salts (ORS), zinc, and other treatments.
He emphasized the importance of maintaining hygiene to prevent diarrhoea, especially during the rainy season.
“When babies crawl, they touch various surfaces and then put their hands in their mouths, which can introduce parasites, viruses, and bacteria causing diarrhoea. We must ensure that guardians keep the babies’ hands clean and work towards the success of the Stop Diarrhoea campaign,” Saha said.
As the Health Minister, Saha also mentioned the state’s efforts in collaboration with the National Health Mission (NHM) to regularly conduct vaccination and health camps, and distribute medicines.
“We need to raise awareness, and I want to thank the ASHA workers for their dedication, especially during natural calamities. We have decided to provide them with umbrellas from our health department and NHM. We are also focusing on TB detection and eradication. Tripura has been recognized for its exceptional performance in the National Tuberculosis Eradication Program, with 48% of Gram Panchayats being TB-free. Our goal is to achieve 100% TB-free status by 2025. Health remains our priority sector,” he added.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Tapas Roy, Secretary of Social Welfare and Social Education; Dr. Brahmit Kaur, Additional Secretary of Health and Family Welfare; Dr. Sanjib Debbarma, Director of Health and Family Welfare; and Rajib Datta, MD of National Health Mission.
