CPIM’s Leftist youth wing, the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), took to the streets in Agartala on Sunday, demanding solutions for pressing issues such as job opportunities, the fight against drug abuse, women’s safety, power shortages, and access to quality education and healthcare in Tripura.
The protest rally was joined by a significant number of DYFIs that kicked off from the Drop Gate area in Agartala. They marched through the streets while chanting slogans that underscored their demands.
Palas Bhowmik, the president of DYFI’s state committee, alleged that back in 2018, before assuming power in Tripura, the ruling BJP had assured the state’s youth of employment opportunities. However, despite nearly six years in power, the current government has failed to fill thousands of vacant positions across various government departments, including teaching roles.
Bhowmik added that the youth in Tripura have grown frustrated due to unemployment, which has resulted in drug addiction among youths.
He pointed out the government’s failure to take effective action against drug-related issues.
DYFI also expressed concern over the rising incidents of crime and violence against women in the state.
They further alleged that certain supporters of the ruling party are involved in criminal activities.
Moreover, they criticized a section of the police force for not taking appropriate actions against these individuals due to their political affiliations, leading to an environment of impunity.
The Leftist Youth Organization also highlighted the deteriorating conditions in the healthcare, education, and power sectors in Tripura over recent years.
They demanded swift action from the state government, led by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, to address these issues.
They also threatened that if the government fails to act, DYFI will have no choice but to resort to widespread agitation across the state as a means of drawing attention to their concerns.
The review meeting was attended by Chief Ministers of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Tripura.
