As many as five persons including a child and two women have been detained in Tripura with huge contraband of drugs.

As the war against drugs continues in Tripura alongside other northeastern states, drug peddlers are now embracing new methods to traffic drugs.

On Sunday afternoon based on secret sharing of inputs of the Teliamura traffic unit, Tripura police detained all five passengers from the Teliamura railway station.

The arrested individuals are residents of different areas of Sonamura sub-division and were heading to Guwahati by train.

The arrested youths are Yusuf Mia and Naeem Hossain.

During search operation, 44 kilogram of dry ganja or cannabis hidden in 19 packets tucked away inside the child’s soft toy and other luggage were seized. The market value of the seized consignment is more than Rs 2.5 lakh.

Meanwhile, a case has been lodged against them and interrogation is on to get more information regarding the racket involved in interstate drug smuggling.
