A delegation of the Darlong Hnam Inzom, which is the apex body of the Darlong community in Tripura, led by its president S K Darlong met Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb at his secretariat office on Wednesday, to convey their gratitude for amending and passing the Bill in the Lok Sabha to include Darlong, as a sub-tribe of the Kuki community in the list of Scheduled Tribes.
Earlier the Darlong community was included in the Halam group and for the last three decades, the Darlong community has been demanding for including them as a sub-tribe of the Kuki.
Union Tribal Minister Arjun Munda had tabled the Bill in Parliament and sought to include the Darlong community as a sub-tribe of the Kuki community in the list of Scheduled Tribes.
The move comes months after Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb sought from the Centre to include Darlong as a sub-tribe of the Kuki in official documents.
