Cyclone Sitrang; Alert in NE states

Several parts of Northeast are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall owing to the deep depression in Bay of Bengal.
The India Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rainfall an thunderstorm amid the Diwali festivities in the Northeastern states of Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Nagaland and Mizoram owing to the low pressure and depression that has developed in the Bay of Bengal.
As per the IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall will occur at isolated places in these states from today till October 26.
As far as Tripura is concerned the state government has issued an alert and instructed all the respective district administrations, NDRF, SDRF, fire services besides trained volunteers to be on standby to tackle any situation.
The district magistrates have been asked to monitor the flow of rivers and the situation at embankments and catchment areas before taking preventive measures.
Safety equipment such as boats, life jackets and other flood-rescue items are being kept on standby, while river flows, embankments and catchment areas are being monitored.
Meanwhile, the Tripura government has advised the public to avoid moving out on October 24 and 25.
