Assistant Professor at Tripura Central University booked under molestation charges

In a shocking incident, an assistant professor at Tripura Central University has been booked for molesting a female student from the university on Tuesday.
Senior police officer and SDPO Asish Dasgupta said that they received a written complaint against the professor for molesting a female student.
The complaint was lodged by the victim’s mother at the Amtali police station. The police informed that an investigation would be carried out and legal proceedings would be initiated against the professor.
The accused is a professor from the philosophy department.
In response to the allegations, members of the student organization ABVP staged a protest in front of Vice Chancellor Professor Ganga Prasad Prasain’s chamber.
The student organization demanded the immediate suspension of the accused assistant professor until a thorough investigation into the case was completed.
To address the situation, Vice Chancellor Prasain and Dean of Students’ Welfare Somdev Banik held a meeting with the protesting students and assured them that the matter would be dealt with promptly and according to the university’s rules.
The ABVP had submitted a written complaint to the DSW, after which the case was immediately forwarded to the Registrar, who has already handed over the case to the internal complaint committee.
It may be mentioned here that a female student was molested by the accused professor during a viva examination in the philosophy department on Monday.
Following the incident, the student fainted as the victim’s oxygen level dropped. The affected student was admitted to Tripura Medical College on Monday. She was released on Tuesday.
Additionally, there have been similar allegations against several professors and PhD guides at Tripura Central University who are accused of attempting to establish sexual relations with students by threatening them of low marks.
The university authorities have requested that anyone with complaints against anyone to come forward, allowing for a comprehensive investigation into all such cases.
