Amid the deteriorating situation in Bangladesh, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha today emphasized that the state has beefed up security along the Indo-Bangladesh border.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a program in Agartala today, Chief Minister Saha assured the public that the state government is closely monitoring developments and following directives from New Delhi to prevent any unauthorized crossings.

“Everyone is aware of the situation in Bangladesh. We are keeping a close watch,” Saha stated.

Chief Minister Saha further informed that he held a meeting with top officials, including the Chief Secretary, DGP, Assam Rifles, and other security forces on Monday evening for ensuring stringent monitoring.

“We have instructed that no one can cross the border, and appropriate arrangements have been made for this purpose,” the Chief Minister added.

Chief Minister Saha highlighted the enhanced coordination between various security agencies to swiftly address any border-related issues.

The Tripura Chief Minister also noted that the Centre has inquired about the impact of the situation in Bangladesh on Tripura.

“The Centre has inquired about the impact of the present situation in Bangladesh on Tripura. I told the centre that so far situation is under control and there is nothing to worry,” he added.

Condemning reports of attacks on minority Hindus in Bangladesh, Chief Minister Saha expressed dismay over such incidents.

However, he commended the efforts of many Bangladeshis, particularly students, who have been protecting minorities and temples, describing this as a positive sign.

Acknowledging potential disruptions in import-export business due to the border situation, Saha reassured that these would be temporary.

Tripura shares an 856 km international border with the trouble-torn country.
