8,732 habitations across Tripura shall have tap water by Dec: PWD Minister

Tripura minister of Public Works Department, Sushanta Chowdhury, has claimed that every household in the state beside all schools and ICD centres in total 8,723 habitations shall have tap water

Tripura minister of Public Works Department, Sushanta Chowdhury, has claimed that every household in the state beside all schools and ICD centres in total 8,723 habitations shall have tap water connection by December 31 this year.

Speaking to reporters during a press conference at the secretariat he informed that under the central government sponsored Jal Jeevan Mission in Tripura already more than 50 percent households has been covered, which is above the national average of 48%.

Chowdhury also said that for this achievement recently the union government has financially rewarded the state with additional Rs 100 crores.

The minister further added that under the DWS across the state a total of 205 water tankers are engaged for supplying water twice daily in 463 habitations where water crisis is present.

He said that though in only around 5% of the total habitations water crisis is there but the areas are spread across in 41 out of the total 58 blocks in Tripura.

Chowdhury also informed about his recent meeting with DoNER Minister G Kishan Reddy for setting up a cultural hub at a proposed cost of Rs 100 crores. He said that the Centre has promised enough funds to Tripura to build a state of the art cultural hub.
