The West Agartala police, in collaboration with the Border Security Force (BSF), apprehended the 12 Bangladeshi citizens in the bordering areas of Lankamura and Sanmura on the outskirts of Agartala

Influx of illegal infiltrators from Bangladesh into Tripura continues unabated, as 12 more Bangladeshi nationals, including three women, were arrested for illegal entry into India today.

The West Agartala police, in collaboration with the Border Security Force (BSF), apprehended the 12 Bangladeshi citizens in the bordering areas of Lankamura and Sanmura on the outskirts of Agartala in West Tripura district.

Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live, Inspector SK Bardhan of West Agartala police station confirmed the arrests, stating, “The interrogations of the detainees are going on. We have registered a case under the Foreigners Act and Passport Act. They will be produced in a local court.”

The detainees were reportedly arrested while attempting to return to Bangladesh. Over the past two and a half months, approximately 200 Bangladeshi nationals and 32 Rohingyas have been arrested by the Government Railway Police, BSF, and Tripura Police from the Agartala railway station and various other locations in Tripura for illegal entry into India.

As per reports, many of the apprehended Bangladeshi nationals have told security personnel that they intend to travel to Delhi, Chennai, Pune, Gujarat, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Mumbai “in search of jobs.” Given the ongoing unrest in Bangladesh, the BSF has heightened its vigilance along the 856-km border with Tripura and maintained close coordination with Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) at various levels.

On July, 23 Bangladesh nationals were apprehended at the Agartala rail station operation in a coordinated effort by the Government Railway Police(GRP), Railway Protection Force (RPF), Border Security Force (BSF), and other security agencies.

A Bangladeshi tout was earlier arrested by the GRP from Agartala in connection to the infiltration of four Bangladeshi nationals on July 26. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) had earlier arrested more than 20 touts from various parts of Tripura.

The continuous influx of illegal immigrants poses significant security and administrative challenges for the region, prompting intensified efforts by the authorities to curb the illegal crossings.
