If there is intense political drama playing out in Manipur, neighbouring Tripura too might be getting ready for some.
After a late night hush meeting with Tripura CM Dr Manik Saha, the state’s main opposition party Tipra Motha’s chairman Pradyot Debbarma dashed to New Delhi today.
Debbarma is accompanied by nine Tipra Motha leaders. The 10-member delegation is scheduled to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah tomorrow.
Tomorrow’s meeting in New Delhi comes in the wake of speculations on whether the Centre would concede the Tipra demand for maximum autonomy and devolution of powers and the possibility of Tipra Motha siding with ruling BJP in Tripura in the event of an agreement or a commitment.
Debbarma said the meeting with CM Saha was about release of funds to the TTAADC (Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council) and other developmental issues. Asked whether they discussed the appointment of an interlocutor to carry forward Tipra Motha’s political demands, Debbarma said that he was not in a position to reveal anything on the matter as of now.
Earlier, there were talks of retired IPS officer and interlocutor for Naga peace talks, AK Mishra would arrive in Tripura and start the dialogue with Tipra Motha regarding its demand for Greater Tipraland and tribal rights of the indigenous people of Tripura.
