Is a new alliance of the Opposition parties on the cards in Sikkim?
There are intense speculations about this after top leaders of the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) and the Hamro Sikkim Party (HSP) held a closed door meeting in Gangtok today.
SDF president and former Chief Minister Pawan Chamling and HSP president Bhaichung Bhutia were present in the meeting, which gives an apparent indication that both the parties may join hands in the run up to the assembly election in the Himalayan state next year.
Sources said that both the parties had discussions on a host of issues ranging from the dilution of the Sikkimese definition and Article 371F, alleged pervasive corruption within government departments, prevailing law and order situation, employment issues, to other significant matters that demand immediate attention.
The HSP and SDF had extended an open invitation to all individuals and organizations who are genuinely concerned about the welfare of Sikkim and are dedicated to resolving its issues.
