The Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) has accused the Prem Singh Tamang government of violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) which has come into effect since March 16.
Former Lok Sabha MP and SDF vice president met Sikkim Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) D Anandan and handed over a letter listing out the violations of MCC by the SKM government.
Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live, PD Rai after meeting the CEO said, “The main purpose of meeting the Chief Electoral Officer , I would like to thank him because he gave us time immediately. We were able to place all our demands in front of him because there are lot of things.
First and foremost you know very well that in the past we have been bringing up this issue of President’s Rule in the state. The President’s Rule is on the account of the fact that there has been a lot of violence in the past. One understands what happened to Keshav Sapkota, Padam Gurung, or for that matter KN Rai. THese kind of incidents point to loss of faith by the people of Sikkim in the law and order situation. So what will change during the election process? The entire administrative machinery comes under the Election Commission. So we have placed in front of him and we have shown that these people even though on the March 16th the MCC came into force but the SKM party and the government agents are not adhering to it. Therefore we had to bring the entire set of problems that we think like giving DOP, the Department of Personnel has been still issuing backdated orders. Those who receive the backdated orders, we have nothing to say. However it is a complete violation of Model Code of Conduct.”
The other points mentioned in the letter to the CEO include-
Rai further believes that voters in Sikkim will reject the SKM in the ensuing elections.
He said, “We are the people who go to jail, we are the people against whom FIRs are placed and when we go for an FIR no FIRs are taken. So this kind of partiality, no justice, no equity, that’s why the people of Sikkim will vote this government out.”
