Sikkim: Lone bridge between Lum & Lower Dzongu washed away; roads and bridges min Samdup Lepcha takes stock

Sikkim Minister for Roads and Bridges Samdup Lepcha today took stock of the situation arising out of the washing away of the lone bridge connecting Lum and Lower Dzongu in Mangan district. The spot where the landslide incident took place is located near the NHPC V dam site in the Lum-Lingtyang ward.

Keeping in mind the urgency to restore the connectivity at the earliest, the minister assured that a bailey bridge would be transported from Mamtam Lake as a temporary means to replace the damaged bridge. The temporary Bailey bridge will be relaunched after a span of 3-4 months.

Besides, Minister Samdup Lepcha also directed officials of every concerned department to take swift action and present a proposal for setting up a bridge for a permanent solution to the issue.

Meanwhile, Lepcha who is also the (Mangan-Lachen) MLA assured his full support and assistance to the public as well as his assistance in the construction and sustenance of the bridge.

The 15m span steel girder bridge, located near the NHPC stage V dam site was damaged due to heavy rainfall Friday night. The slippage of rock which was overhanging above the bridge disconnected the only lifeline.
