Sikkim is inviting US investors to invest in the sectors of tourism, agriculture, horticulture, and livestock products in the state.

To this effect, Sikkim’s Minister of Agriculture and Horticulture, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services Lok Nath Sharma is heading a delegation on a visit to the US for holding talks with industry leaders and officials.

It may be mentioned here that the United States is a huge potential market for Sikkim’s high-quality organic products and any kind of investment in this sector will directly benefit the state’s agricultural arena.

The Sikkim delegation headed by Minister Lok Nath Sharma includes Sikkim Organic Farming Development Agency (SOFDA) CEO Dr S Anbalagan, SSOCA CEO Sudhir Giri, and SSOCA Quality Manager Binita Chettri.

The delegation is scheduled to visit Washington, Florida, and other cities during their stay in the US.

The Sikkim delegation led by Sharma already held a series of meetings wherein they discussed areas of cooperation in sectors such as agriculture, horticulture, and animal husbandry as well as creating facilities and infrastructure for processing and marketing of organic commodities.

Another significant priority for the Sikkim delegation is securing the National Organic Programme or NOP accreditation certificate from the United States Department of Agriculture that will ensure that organic products from Sikkim can be sold in foreign markets.

The accreditation once granted by the United States Department of Agriculture would immensely help the Sikkim State Organic Certification Agency (SSOCA) to secure business opportunities as a certifying body.
