Sikkim: Former SDF MLA from Gangtok-Dorjee Namgyal Bhutia resigns from party ahead of assembly polls

Resignation spree continues in Sikkim ahead of the Lok Sabha elections and assembly elections.
Two days after former Minister and Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) party leader, Girish Chandra Rai resigned from the party, Dorjee Namgyal Bhutia, former MLA from Gangtok has resigned from the party today.
Bhutia has submitted his resignation letter to the party chief Pawan Chamling.
His resignation letter read: “This is to inform you that I would like to tender my resignation from primary member of the party. I would also like to express my heartfelt gratitude for all the responsibilities entrusted upon me during my tenure with the SDP Party ever since “1993”.
I appreciate all the opportunity provided while serving in various capacities.”
He joined SDF in 1993. In the 2009 assembly elections, he became MLA after he secured Gangtok seat, defeating Congress candidate Gyasto Bhutia.
Dorjee Namgyal Bhutia had represented the Gangtok constituency from 2009 to 2014.
Kunga Nima Lepcha of the Sikkim KrantiKari Morcha (SKM) won the seat in the 2019 assembly elections after Bhutia did not get a ticket by the party to contest.
