Sikkim CM Tamang takes stock of road infrastructure projects in the state

CM has stressed on better coordination between the Centre and State agencies for developing infrastructure in the State.

Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on Tuesday reviewed the progress of the National Highway Projects in the state. He stressed the importance of coordination between the Centre and State agencies for fast-tracking the implementation of infrastructure projects in the State and instructed the officials to get the work back on track.

Issues of land acquisition, proposed projects, ownership disputes and arbitration, and possible financial interventions were discussed in detail in the review meeting attended by officials of NHIDCL and other stakeholders in Gangtok.

CM Tamang interacted with the state government officials and construction companies’ representatives and enquired about the project’s present status of road construction projects in the State. He directed the implementing agencies to complete projects in a time-bound manner.
Some of the issues that figured in the meeting included issues related to non-evacuation of compensated houses/structures, compensation for damage beyond RoW, safeguarding nature while constructing roads, and other technicalities.

The Chief Minister also directed the officials to identify the damaged area under Row to compensate the individuals accordingly and requested NHIDCL to do the needful as and when required.

The Chief Minister also interacted with the District Collectors of Gangtok, Pakyong, Namchi, and Gyalshing.

Kunga Nima, Minister of Land Revenue and Disaster Management, Mingma Norbu Sherpa, Minister of Power Department, BS Panth, Minister of Tourism Department, LN Sharma, Minister of Agriculture, VB Phatak, Chief Secretary of the State and other senior officials and company representatives were present at the meeting.
