Recently, the SKM Government has announced to double the vehicle taxes in the state from October 1.
Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang has criticised the one-week ultimatum over the vehicle tax hike, issued to the SKM Government by the opposition Citizen Action Party, as insignificant.
Addressing a program in Gangtok today, Chief Minister Tamang said that so-called opposition parties who did not receive even 5 percent of votes in the recent elections are issuing an ultimatum to the popular government.
The Chief Minister stated that the attempt is comparable to a small team challenging an international football team.
Recently, the SKM Government has announced to double the vehicle taxes in the state from October 1.
Raising concerns over its impact on the common people, opposition political parties including BJP, and CAP yesterday urged the State Government to withdraw the notification.
CAP has also submitted a memorandum to the state’s Transport Department and given an ultimatum of one week to withdraw the notification or else they will take strong action to fight for it.
The BJP said that the government’s move would hurt the common people and small businesses that rely on vehicles for their livelihood.
