Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang visited the flood and landslide affected places in Jorethang this morning and took stock of the situation. During his visit the Chief Minister was accompanied by officials of the Public Health and Engineering department, Power department and Urban Development department.
Chief Minister Tamang asked officials to collaborate and formulate a comprehensive project aimed at ensuring the safety and security of the public and the affected area.
The Chief Minister asked the officials to relocate the affected residents to safer zones. He assured the affected people that his government will take immediate action to provide them relief.
On June 29, gushing waters of the Rangeet river washed away a portion of the Majigaon road in Jorethang snapping off road connectivity.
As per inputs at least 50 houses in the Greenpark area of Majigaon are facing threat of being eroded by the heavy flow of water. Tarpaulin sheets were deployed to prevent further erosion of properties by the raging rivers. Residents in the Green Park area have been advised to avoid going near the riversides for their safety.
The situation is feared to aggravate if heavy downpour continues.
