"If Sharma is really sincere to his people, then I give him a challenge to resign from the post of MLA and stand in the by-elections before 2024," he added
The Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) party on Monday organised a “Victory Celebration and Thanksgiving Programme” at Singtam, East Sikkim, thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Union Law Minister Kiran Rijiju for removing the “foreigner” tag put on Sikkimese and Nepali people in the recent Supreme Court verdict.
The Party workers gave a grand welcome to Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, who came to participate in the General Assembly of Singtam Bazar, from Rangpoo Bazar. After this, the party supporters and others thanked the Chief Minister, who reached Singtam with a large bike and car rally from the entrance level of the market to the meeting place.
Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, along with his wife, Krishna Rai, Assembly Speakers, Sikkim Government Ministers, MLAs and former MLAs, representatives of various government departments, and the general public were present in the ceremony.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang declared that from now on the 8th of February will be celebrated as a victory festival, and the name of this day should be decided by the people themselves. He stated that this is a significant day for Sikkim and that it will be celebrated grandly beginning next year to recognise Sikkimese existence.
Launching an attack at Singtam Khamdong regional MLA MK Sharma, CM Tamang alleged that Sharma has been wanting to hold the post of Chief Minister since 2019, and this time too he resigned from his post to become the Chief Minister.
“If Sharma is really sincere to his people, then I give him a challenge to resign from the post of MLA and stand in the by-elections before 2024,” he added.
He further stated that from today, the leader of the people, Singtam Khamdong, will be the leader of the people and will also do the work of the people.
The Chief Minister also said that not them but the previous government should apologise to the people of Sikkim for being tagged as “foreigners.” He also accused the former Chief minister of Sikkkim, Pawan Chamling, of separating people according to their caste and traditions.
