Sikkim celebrates 48th statehood day today, Prez Murmu, HM Shah extend wishes

Sikkim’s statehood day would also be celebrated in Assam. The celebrations will be held at the Raj Bhavan (Governor’s House) this evening

Sikkim is celebrating its 48th statehood day today. It was on this day in 1975 that Sikkim had become the 22nd state of the Union of India.

Governor of Sikkim, Lakshman Prasad Acharya will grace the celebrations at Gangtok as the chief guest and Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang will be present as the special guest.

The state government will give away three awards–Sikkim Ratna, Sikkim Sewa Ratna and Sikkim Sewa Samman to recipients on this occasion.

As part of the celebrations, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang will flag off 8 ambulances for government colleges. Additionally, a Mobile Village Clinic awareness video will also be released.

President Droupadi Murmu, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Sikkim governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, and Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang greeted the people of the Himalayan state Sikkim on the occasion.

President Droupadi Murmu lauded the state for its blend of modern innovations and unique traditions, as well as for having pioneered organic farming, enhanced biodiversity, and developed a sustainable development model.

President Murmu recalled her visit to the state last year and expressed how overwhelmed she was by the warmth of the people of the state during that time.

“Greetings to the people of Sikkim on Statehood Day! Sikkim presents a blend of modernity and unique traditions. The state has pioneered organic farming, enriched biodiversity and created a model for sustainable development. I was touched by the warmth of people during my visit of the state last year. My best wishes for the continued progress of Sikkim,” President Droupadi Murmu tweeted.

In his Twitter post, Union Home Minister Amit Shah wrote,” Heartfelt wishes to the people of Sikkim on their statehood day. Sikkim is a gem in northeastern India with its hardworking people contributing profusely to the nation’s culture and economy. May the state continue to prosper in the years to come.”

Wishing the state people on statehood day, Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya said that Sikkim’s experience since joining the largest democracy in the world has been remarkable and characterised by unheard-of social, economic, and cultural progress. He urged everyone to make wise use of the state’s natural and human resources to keep the rate of development steady.

Wishing the people of his state, CM Tamang said that the statehood day is an opportunity for reflection on what Sikkim has accomplished and what still needs to be done.

Sikkim statehood day celebrations would also be held in Assam today. The celebrations would be held at Raj Bhavan (Governor’s House) today evening as per directives from the Union Home Ministry.
