Sikkim BJP leader Narendra Kumar Subba has sought Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s prompt intervention and “urgent action” in fixing major road infrastructure in West Sikkim along the India-Nepal border which was washed away by flood waters. This has affected the movement of troops along the international border and civilians in the area.
In his letter, Subba said, “…on the night if 17th June, 2023, the area along Indo-Nepal Border in West Sikkim received incessant rainfall, due to which major infrastructures were washed away by the flood. In particular, the Footbridge and footpath connecting Uttarey (Simphok) to Border Out Post of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and BOP Chitray SSB to Chewa Bhanjyang Road has been totally dmaged by the flood. Due to which the movement of forces and supply of essential materials has been severely affected”.
Subba has requested the Defence Minister to look into the matter and use his good offices to restore the damaged infrastructure and ensure ease of movement.
Subba is the MLA representing the Maneybong-Dentam constituency and is the Sikkim BJP legislative party leader.
