Sikkim BJP cries foul. Alleges erroneous report was submitted to Home Ministry on drugs seizure. Demands more pro-active steps.
The Sikkim BJP has flayed the role of the state government as well as police for allegedly furnishing erroneous details about drugs seizure in the Himalayan state.
Citing to a report, sent to the Union Home ministry, Sikkim BJP president DB Chauhan said that the quantity of seized drugs was mentioned as 65000 kg, which the Sikkim Police later clarified as 65000 miligram of drugs.
Chauhan said that such erroneous report should not have been handed over to the Centre since the issue found place during a reply by MoS Home Nityanand Rai in the Parliament.
In fact DB Chauhan pointed out that the prevalence of drugs among the students particularly has increased as contraband substances are now easily available. DB Chauhan added that drugs are easily transported from Siliguri which has resulted in rise in number of drug abusers.
The Sikkim BJP president also urged the PS Tamang government to form an Anti-Narcotics Squad to stop the menace of drugs. Not only this, DB Chauhan also referred to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s model of War on Drugs and appealed the Sikkim government to take up similar steps.
Besides, the Sikkim BJP president has also demanded that the vigil on the entry points to the state must be enhanced to deal with drugs smuggling.
