Sikkim: Bear attacks woman; victim critical

The forest dept is making efforts to tranquilize the bear. The bear attacked the victim at a place which is normally not a Bear Prone Area.
A 34-year old woman was critically injured after a bear attacked her at Berimok in West Sikkim. The victim identified as Zingdem Bhutia, is undergoing treatment at the STNM Hospital in Gangtok.
Officials also informed that all the necessary treatment will be provided by the government and will receive due compensation.
As per inputs, the forest department is making all out efforts to tranquilize the bear. Notably, the bear attacked the victim at a place which is normally not a Bear Prone Area.
Earlier, too several incidents of bear attacking human beings have come to light from the Himalayan state.
