Several Roads in Sikkim blocked due to landslides; Here’s the list of roads to avoid

Incessant rain has created havoc in Sikkim, with several landslides reported in parts of the state. Due to the landslides, several roads were washed away, affecting the movement of commuters and vehicles in the region.

Earlier this morning, roads near Mangan town and Chungthang in North Sikkim were cut off due to a landslide.

The Gangtok-Nathula (India-China border) Road has also been blocked due to a landslide.

The Indira bypass to STNM Hospital Road has been closed after a portion of road was washed way following a landslide in Gangtok.

The Sonam Choda Memorial Secondary School in Lingdong, Dzongu, in North Sikkim is under threat after parts of the school developed cracks due to soil loss following heavy rainfall.

The animals are also facing the brunt of nature after several shelters for domestic animals were washed away.

The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for Sikkim for the next 24 hours. More than 440 millilitres of rain are expected in the next 24 hours.

The frequent landslides in the region has raised safety concerns among the people. An advisory from the government is awaited.

Here is the list of roads to avoid if you are travelling to Sikkim:

Dentam Sub-Division:

Pelling-Dentam Road was blocked after a part of it washed out. The vehicles are advised to take the diversion route from Laching.

Yangang Sub-Division:

Rabongla-Yangang Road is blocked due to a slide at Pathing.

Pakyong Sub-Division:
1) Assamlingzey to Pakyong road blocked.
2) The road from Latuk Thek to Rolep is closed.
3) Taksang PMGSY road to Koirala Gaon road blocked.
4) Pakyong Mamring Tareythang Rorathang road blocked.

Namchi Sub-Division:

  1. Phongla Bermiok Road is closed.
  2. Namchi Vok Sikkip Road is closed.

Kaluk Sub-Division:
Road from lower Segeng to Suntaley is blocked.
Jorthang Sub-Division:

  1. Melli Phong Road is blocked.
  2. Passi Kateng to Namthang road is blocked; clearance work is underway.

Rongli Sub-Division:
1) Bankdara-Posokey road is blocked. Traffic was closed for all types of vehicles.
2) Road from Rolep power House to Navarey Gaon washed away.

Rabong Sub-Division:
1) Rayong Tinkitam Road is blocked and major slips at various stretches.
2) The road along Ralong Phamtam is closed.

Gyalshing Sub-Division:
1) Tashangthang to Shyangkhola road blocked.
2) Chongrang-Labdang road blocked
