Prem Singh Tamang takes oath as Sikkim CM for 2nd consecutive term

Along with CM Tamang, 11 ministers of his cabinet were also administered oath of office by Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya
Prem Singh Tamang was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Sikkim for the second consecutive term today. Along with CM Prem Singh Tamang, 11 MLAs were sworn in. They will be ministers in his new cabinet.
Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya administered the oath of office and secrecy to CM PS Tamang and his cabinet at the Paljor Stadium in the presence of thousands of people.
There are two first time MLAs who have been inducted into the Tamang Cabinet this time. Five ministers have been dropped. Those dropped are – B S Panth, Loknath Sharma, Sanjeet Kharel, L B Das and M N Sherpa.
Like last time, this time too there is no woman minister in Tamang’s cabinet.
The new members of the PS Tamang government 2.0 are-
- Sonam Lama, a minister in the outgoing Tamang govt. He won from the Sangha seat
- NB Dahal, first time MLA from Singtam-Khamdong
- Arun Upreti, former minister and Speaker in the outgoing Sikkim Assembly won the Arithang seat again
- G T Dhungel, 2nd time MLA from Upper Tadong
- Tshering Thendup Bhutia, first time MLA from Yuksom seat
- Bhojraj Rai, 2 time SDF MLA, first time SKM MLA. He defeated Pawan Chamling in the Poklok-Kamrang seat
- Bhim Hang Limboo, minister in the outgoing Tamang government. He won the Yangthang seat
- Raju Basnett MLA, Namcheybong. He defeated Pawan Chamling by 2256 votes. Basnet got 7195 votes while Chamling got 4939 votes.
- Pinsto Namgyal Lepcha, Dzongu MLA
- Samdup Lepcha, MLA from Lachen Mangan, Minister of Public Works Department (PWD) and Cultural Affairs and Heritage in the earlier Tamang Government
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was among the first ones to congratulate the Sikkim CM.
In a post on social media, the PM wrote, “Congratulations to Shri @PSTamangGolay on taking oath as the Chief Minister of Sikkim. Wishing him a fruitful tenure and looking forward to working with him for Sikkim’s progress.”

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu congratulated PS Tamang in a post on social media and wrote, “Warm congratulations to Shri @PSTamangGolay Ji on beginning his second term as Chief Minister of Sikkim.
Your steadfast dedication and outstanding leadership have profoundly benefited the people of Sikkim. Under your guidance, the promise of continued progress and development brings hope and optimism for the future.
Wishing you a successful and prosperous term as you lead Sikkim to new heights!”

Briefing newspersons after the swearing-in ceremony, Sikkim CM PS Tamang said, “I thank the people of Sikkim for giving us a thumping majority. The reason behind our victory is that despite the COVID-19 pandemic we did a lot of work. We fulfilled the promises made in 2019 and made possible whatever was regarded as impossible. We worked whole heartedly for the people and that is why we could win the elections in 2024. National security is our top priority. We are completing 50 years of statehood in 2025, I will speak to the PM on this.”
