The Sikkim’s leading opposition party, Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) today said that the death of student leader Padam Gurung is a ‘political murder.’ The SDF also accused the ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) of shielding the perpatrators.
SDF spokesperson Rikzing Bhutia briefing media today alleged, “The only reason the death of Padam Gurung has not been solved is because the Sikkim Police and the government is trying to save a high profile individual who is being backed by the government. To save the person, the Sikkim Police is trying to frame Padam Gurung’s death as unnatural instead of a murder, we fear it may be a political murder. There is no association between Padam Gurung and SDF, we will clear that. He is not a part of our party, we fear this is a political murder. The killer is not being apprehended but being saved”.
The SDF also alleged that investigation has been delayed from the beginning and the post-mortem report does not justify the external injuries that Padam Gurung’s body has sustained.
Rikzing Bhutia further alleged that the police has been pressurized by the government and said, “The way the police is handling the matter has a vested interest. Police are acting accordingly because they are being presssurized. So who can pressurize the polcie. The police can be pressurized only by the government itself, because the govt is the head of the police, it is their subject. The Law minister himself is quite on the matter. And they are forming committee after committee.”
Accusing the government of backing the perpetrator, SDF leader Rikzing Bhutia demanded a CBI probe. He said, “The government does not want to diclsose the actual person who is behind the murder of Padam Gurung.
The matter should be handed over to CBI so that it can properly investigate the matter find out the real culprit.”
