Amid great cheers from sport lovers, the Northeast Zone Inter-State Badminton Championship 2019 kick-started on Thursday in Sikkim with a sporting spirit among players.
A total of 160 players from eight northeastern states participated in the event. The four-day long championship is being organized by the Badminton Association of Sikkim
The championship has live scoring system in each court using Badminton World Federation Tournament’s software. And this will enable the global audience to view the event.
The championship will have men’s singles, doubles and mixed doubles, women’s singles & doubles and mixed doubles, boys’ singles & doubles and mixed doubles and girls’ singles & doubles and mixed doubles.
According to the organizer, this is one of the zonal badminton tournaments in India, from which the winner will get direct entry in the national championship as zonal winner.
The tourney aims at providing better exposure to the local players. The association had organised the North East Zonal Badminton Championship successfully in 1995, 2003 and 2011.
