First Covid then the lake burst hits Sikkim’s tourism hard

The Himalayan state of Sikkim, known for its tourism Industry, is grappling with difficulties and challenges in its peak season.

Known for its breath taking landscapes and vibrant culture, the state is facing a downward trend in its tourism sector.

The once thriving sector is encountering significant challenges that are impacting both local businesses and the economy.

First Covid-19 pandemic and then the Flood that lashed through Sikkim on October 4th has hit the tourism industry in the state very hard and is not allowing the sector to get back on track.

Talking to the North East Live, people involved in the state’s tourism business underlined the need to revive the industry from the grass root level.

They claimed that, tourist footfall was very less in the peak season because of the cloudburst in last October.

They also claimed that, regular tourists who like to visit Hilly stations were diverted to Arunachal Pradesh in North East because of good management which lacks in Sikkim.

They further added that the high prices of the packages should be revised and made more affordable.
