Siddhant Pathya, a 2nd year student of Computer Science department, was allegedly brutally thrashed by 4th year students

A sensational case of a student beaten up has been reported from NIT (National Institute of Technology) Silchar, Assam.

As per inputs, Siddhant Pathya, a 2nd year student of Computer Science department, was allegedly brutally thrashed by 4th year students. The student sustained serious injuries in different parts of the body including his head, as a mob of around 100 individuals kicked him, punched him, hit him with glass bottles and whatever they could lay their hands on.

The incident reportedly took place on March 30th.

Narrating the incident, the student said, “I am a student at the NIT Silchar in the 2nd year. I was brutally beaten by seniors of the 4th year, a mob came and assaulted me. The people who started beating me, I know them. They hit me with glass bottles in my head. They kicked me, punched me when I fell down. My friend Sushmit was with me, and when he came to rescue me. He too was also beaten up. I want justice.”

Prior to the thrashing and physical assault, here is what had happened —

Siddhant had parked his car outside Hostel 6 & 7. While passing by at night, he noticed that all the 4 tyres were flat.

“The next day I called a mechanic to repair the tyres. But the mechanic said that the tyres was damaged due to stabbing by a shart object (probably knife). Then I figured who must have been behind this. I called that guy and I said that I will file an FIR at the Ghungoor Police Station and asked him to come to the PS as soon as possible. And then within 10-15 minutes they came and brutally thrashed me in front of the Professors. In fact the Professors tried to rescue me, but they did not listen. They were very aggressive,” Siddhant said narrating the incident.

Siddhant Pathya also said that one of his close friends was also beaten up in a similar manner almost a month ago. Siddhant said, “20-25 days back Sushmit was also beaten up and the administration took action. The administration always supports us. But this time administration ‘s action will not be enough. We need justice. Police has to arrest them. This is what we want.”

Meanwhile, an FIR has been filed with the Ghungoor Police Station in connection with the case. Names of 18 students, who are boarders of Hostel 6 & 7, have been named in the FIR.

Meanwhile, Cachar SP Numal Mahatta speaking to Northeast Live, informed that police probe is underway and mostly the incident pertains to students body elections. The SP added, “Today elections were supposed to be held, but because of the incident, it has been cancelled. It is completely not related to ragging. I myself have taken the statement of the victim boy and he also told me that the matter is not related to any kind of ragging.”

Further details are awaited and investigation into the matter is underway.
