Ruthless war against drugs will continue: Tripura CM Manik Saha

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha today once again sent out a strong message by stating that ruthless operation will be launched against those involved in illegal drugs trade.

Citing Home Minister Amit Shah, the Tripura Chief Minister said,”The operation will continue ruthlessly. Ruthlessly is the word used by Home Minister Amit Shah. He has asked to carry out the operations against drugs ruthlessly.”

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Manik Saha reiterated that his government is strictly following the ‘Zero Tolerance’ policy as far as dealing with drugs menace is concerned. The Tripura Chief Minister said,”Our youths have fallen prey to Nasha (intoxication). We have waged a war against this. Starting from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Union Home Minister Amit Shah have said to adopt a zero tolerance policy against drugs. Our government already has a zero tolerance approach in this regard.”

Expressing concern over the prevalence of drugs among the youths, particularly in Tripura, Chief Minister Saha said,”The ‘victims’ are at no fault. But the main offenders are those who are using Nasha (intoxication) as a source of income, earning profits and while doing so are destroying generation after generation.”

Addressing an event to felicitate meritorious students at the Rabindra Satabarkhiki Bhawan, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha highlighted that students have a bigger role to play in generating awareness against use of drugs.

It may be mentioned that as part of the Nasha Mukt Tripura (Drugs Free Tripura) the Tripura Police conducted a special week long drive since April 19, in which contraband worth over Rs 2. 5 crore have been seized. During the Anti-Narcotics Special Drive, altogether 245 persons involved in drugs trade have been arrested while 50 cases have been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS Act, 1985).
