Roster Row: VPP sticks to its stand, to stage protest despite CM Sangma’s initiative

CM Sangma had said that detailed presentation about the Roster system would be made before the Cabinet and an all-party meet starting tomorrow

The opposition Voice of People’s Party (VPP) in Meghalaya is not budging from its stand. VPP president and MLA from Nongkrem, Ardent Miller Basawaimoit said on Tuesday that his party would go ahead with its decision to stage a sit-in demonstration tomorrow, May 17 to protest the Reservation Policy and the Roster system even as Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today said that his government would make a detailed presentation on the Roster System to the Cabinet tomorrow and before an all-party meet on May 19.

“We welcome the step taken by the government to convene an all-party meeting. But we want the government to put on hold all recruitment processes pending the review of the Policy (Reservation). We are going ahead with our sit-in demonstration,” Basawaimoit told reporters in Shillong.
Worth mentioning here that the VPP President on May 12 had given the Conrad Sangma-led Meghalaya government 48 hours to put on hold all job interviews failing which the VPP would launch an agitation.

CM Sangma said today that starting tomorrow, detailed presentations will be made before the Cabinet, then before the MDA partners on May 18. On May 19 the presentation would be made before an all-party meet. Next week the Conrad government will make the presentation before civil society organisations and member including NGOs, church leaders and different Rongbah Shnongs.
