In an effort to put pressure on the Meghalaya State Government to take steps to look after primary education in the Garo Hills, the All Garo Hills Primary School Teachers’ Association on Monday staged a sit-in dharna at the under-construction PA Sangma Stadium at Dakopgre in Meghalaya’s Tura.
As per reports, the main demands of the teachers include service regulariSation, discontinuation of the use of Primary teachers as Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and the appointment of additional teachers at single teacher schools.
Reportedly, the primary school teachers have raised the issue on a number of occasions along with submitting several memorandums to the Government.
Meanwhile, the association has urged the Government to look into their grievances with a warning that a stronger agitation would be undertaken in the future if steps are not taken to resolve their grievances.
