Post-poll violence in Nagaland’s Tizit; houses of BJP & NPF supporters allegedly torched by supporters of Congress candidate T Thomas Konyak

As per inputs, at least 10 houses belonging to supporters of BJP and NPF were torched by unknown miscreants.

Massive post poll-violence has been reported at Tizit in Nagaland’s Mon district that occured last night. The BJP has alleged Congress hand behind the incident.

As per inputs, at least 10 houses belonging to supporters of BJP and NPF were torched by unknown miscreants. If reports are to be believed, BJP has alleged that supporters of Congress candidate from the Tizit constituency, T. Thomas Konyak are behind the cases of arson.

However, everything will be clear after a probe. An official statement from the BJP as well as the Congress is also awaited.

Worth mentioning, BJP’s P Paiwang Konyak and minister of Transport, Civil Aviation and Railways, Land Resource had emerged victorious from the Tizit seat by defeating his nearest rival, T. Thomas Konyak of the Congress by a margin of over 4603 votes. While, P. Paiwang Konyak garnered 10428 votes, his nearest rival T Thomas Konyak could manage to secure only 5825 votes. NPF’s Tahwang Angh had received 3374 votes.

Further details regarding the violence are still awaited.

Prior to the assembly election, prohibitory orders were imposed under section 144 CrPC, in Tizit town on February 21, evening. The restriction was enforced by the Deputy Commissioner, Mon, following an incident of arson in the town on the night of February 20.

It said that the order was necessitated based on information “from Tizit sub-division that certain group of people are not only disturbing the law-and-order situation in and around Tizit Town area but also hampering the ongoing process of General Election in free and fair manner, thereby causing likelihood of breach of public peace and tranquility in around Tizit Town area.”
