Outbreak of African swine fever has reached an alarming position in Assam. Although the state government has initiated necessary steps to prevent the further spread of African Swine Fever, but things have taken a serious turn.

According to Assam animal husbandry minister Atul Bora, a section of pig farmers have concealed information about pigs being infected by the deadly disease. According to the minister, the pig farmers are intentionally hiding the matter and are not raising an alarm.

He informed that the pig farmers are refusing to come forward as they fear that their pigs might get culled.

Atul Bora also said that the government are culling infected pigs and has imposed restrictions on transportation of pigs.

An outbreak of African Swine Fever or ASF – a highly infectious hemorrhagic viral disease of pigs – has been reported from two separate locations in eastern Assam’s Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts.

Following this, authorities will be carrying out a culling operation in Dibrugarh district today. In Dibrugarh district, the disease has been reported from Bhugalipathar forest village under Khowang development block where 21 pigs have died so far after getting infected from ASF.
