Solution to Naga issue: Polls likely to be deferred?

Will a solution to the vexed Naga issue be a reality before the Christmas this year? All eyes set on future couse of action by stakeholders.

Will the Nagaland assembly elections be deferred? This may be a reality only if solution to the vexed Naga political issue is reached at by this year.

As per reports, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio said,” If a solution to the Naga issue arrives at around this time, the state polls may have to be deferred as seats in the Assembly and Parliament have to be increased.”

The polls to elect 60 members of the Nagaland Assembly is scheduled to be held early next year.

Although speculations are rife over a solution to the Naga political issue, Chief Minister Rio appreciated the fact that political talks have resumed between the Government of India and the NSCN-IM and the Working Committee of 7 Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs).

It may be mentioned, that there was a major breakthrough in the deadlock after the NSCN-IM and NNPGs agreed to form a common body to explore ways and move forward towards finding a solution.
