Nagaland: Robbery attempt at Kohima Co-operative Bank foiled

An alert tenant helped thwart a robbery at the Nagaland State Co-operative bank branch in Kohima’s PR Hill early this morning.

Nagaland Police’s Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) T. Relo Aye said that one of the tenants who owns a pharmacy in the same building that housed the bank spotted smoke billowing out of the bank. He immediately informed the fire service and the police thereby foiling the robbery attempt.
Nagaland Director General of Police (DGP) Rupin Sharma informed that the robber failed to break open the vault that had over a crore rupees in cash.

A four-member SIT team has been constituted, led by the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), to investigate the case.

The robber destroyed the CCTV cameras installed at the bank, however, the hard disk has been retrieved by the police.

As per the CCTV footage, the robber is seen fully masked attempting to break into the vault of the bank.
Although, the CCTV footage shows only one person, ASP Aye said it is too early to conclude that only one person was involved in the operation, adding that, the robber must have been familiar with the bank.
“A police team is examining the CCTV footage retrieved from the bank and from the areas nearby,” said Aye.

Aye, also urged other business establishments to install CCTV cameras in their shops as it helps the police in their investigation.
