Nagaland Landslides: CM Rio Visits Site Despite Bad Weather, Says FIR Filed Against NHIDCL for Failing to Address Issues

CM Rio pointed out that the NHIDCL had failed to address pressing concerns despite being highlighted in previous meetings.

Despite bad weather, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio visited the landslide-affected areas along National Highway 29 today and took stock of the situation despite bad weather conditions.

CM Rio emphasized the need for swift action to restore regular vehicular movement on the vital route.

Reiterating his commitment to addressing the issue, CM Rio urged the concerned authorities to expedite the restoration process and said that the government will ensure that the inconvenience to people is minimized and that normalcy is restored as quickly as possible.

“Visited landslide-affected areas along NH-29 & took stock of the current situation. Reiterated to the concerned authority to expedite restoration of regular vehicular movement. The Govt. will ensure that inconvenience to citizens is minimized & normalcy restored at the earliest,” CM Rio tweeted.

The Chief Minister said, “Many precious lives have been lost in the tragedy. We will try our best to resolve as soon as possible and we will try to open the traffic as soon as possible.”

CM Rio pointed out that the NHIDCL had failed to address pressing concerns despite being highlighted in previous meetings.

The Chief Minister said that the State Government has already filed an FIR against NHIDCL in this regard.

The Executive Director of the National Highway and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), Officials from PWD National Highway and Road and Bridges and Deputy Commissioner Chumukedima were also present at the site during the inspection.

The inspection team said that one-way traffic has been restored on National Highway 29. To address the immediate needs of the people, trucks carrying essential commodities will be given priority on this route to ensure there is no shortage of essential supplies for citizens.

Light vehicles will be allowed to pass through the New Chumukedima to Old Chumukedima route.

As many as 6 people were killed, and several injured on National Highway-29 (Dimapur-Kohima) after a devastating landslide hit Pherima village, in Nagaland’s Chumukedima district on Tuesday night.
