Amid the ongoing indefinite shutdown called by the trade and business community of Nagaland, the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) has asked the state government to clarify if taxes imposed by Naga Political Groups are legal or illegal.
In a letter to Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, the DCCI has put forward a charter of 5 demands besides seeking clarification on several critical issues which have been causing trouble for the trade and business community operating out of Nagaland.
Some of the key issues raised by DCCI in the charter of demands are-
The State Government should immediately clarify whether taxation imposed by NPGs is legal or illegal.
Should the business community pay GST or Taxation to NPGs. The State Government should reply in black and white.
The DCCI further stated that the issue requires immediate intervention of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio citing that they are unable to do business “under the present inhumane situation.”
The charter of demand comes amid the Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industry calling for an indefinite shutdown of shops and businesses in the state from today to protest the alleged multiple taxes, intimidation to the business community in the state, threats and extortion and summons to members of the business community allegedly by various political groups.
