The Nagaland Government has finally bowed to mounting pressure from the in-service doctors in the state.

In what appeared as a significant victory for the agitating in-service doctors, the Nagaland Government during its Cabinet meeting on Friday decided to raise the superannuation age of all doctors from 60 to 62 years.

However, the cabinet also informed that the superannuation age of in-service doctors will be increased through re-employment as a consultant or senior consultant. As per the cabinet decision, willing superannuating doctors wanting an extension of services will be allowed to join without interview but will be screened for physical fitness.

It may be mentioned here that the Nagaland In-Service Doctors Association or NIDA recently launched its second phase of agitation from 18th to 20th of April to press for its demand to increase superannuation of in-service doctors from 60 to 62 years.

The in-house doctors had gone for a mass casual leave  for the three days severely impacting the out patient services.
