The conflict arising out of a land dispute between Lamhainamdi and Kiveyi village in Nagaland along the Chumukedima, Peren border area worsened today with villagers from both sides reportedly clashing once again in the disputed area.
Videos doing rounds on social media purportedly from the incident side show locals even resorting to gunfights.
The situation turned extremely volatile prompting the respective district administrations to impose section 144 in the area along the Chumukedima-Peren border area.
Gathering of more than five people has been banned in the highway stretch from Vihuto Village, Khehoyi village, Kiyevi village and the Chumukedima-Peren border belt.
The order shall remain imposed until further notice.
Meanwhile, people travelling along the aforementioned areas have been urged to be cautious.

Notably, in March 2021, at least three persons were killed and several vehicles and fields were destroyed by miscreants along the disputed Lamhainamdi area that lies between Peren and Chumukedima.
The Dimapur-Peren border area is a disputed area that is inhabited by various Naga tribes on both sides of the border.
The Zeliangrong community in Peren district (representative of the three Naga tribes of Zeme, Liangmai and Rongmei ) and the Sumis in Dimapur, are the two major tribes.
The disputed land has been the cause of conflict between the two tribal communities, Sumi and Zeme, according to a statement released in June 2019 by the Nagaland Home Department’s Principal Secretary Abhijit Sinha.
