On-ground works will begin to set up barricades and other measures which will be strictly implemented.

In a bid to ease traffic congestion, a spot verification exercise for identifying no parking zone, one-lane road, and the two-lane road was carried out along the stretch of road starting for Classic Island till the Box Cutting area in Kohima yesterday.

The exercise was carried out in collaboration with the SDO Civil Sardar, SP Traffic Kohima, O.C Traffic, members of Officers’ Hill Youth Organization, and members of Officers’ Hill Colony Council.

SDO Civil Sardar said that the spots identified in the exercise will be submitted to the Regional Transport Authority for consideration in their quarterly meeting this month.

If the recommendation receives the approval of the RTA, on-ground works will begin to set up barricades and other measures which will be strictly implemented.

Deputy SP Traffic informed that the exercise is part of the ongoing exercise taken up by the Kohima Traffic Police along with the district administration in all the municipal areas within Kohima.

The traffic police personnel also requested the public to be cautious, and maintain civic sense while parking their cars along the stretch of road.

President of OHYO, Kezhalezo Solo said the organization had submitted a list of recommendations to the district administration for consideration in order to ease the traffic congestion along the stretch of the said road.

He said that with the approval of the RTA, the OHYO seeks to implement no parking zones strictly for taxis and commercial vehicles near Classic Island, imposition of fines for illegal parking, and strict adherence to no entry points.
