The NSCN-IM has accused the Government of India of misinterpreting what has been mutually agreed upon by both sides.
Raising the Naga Political issue at the general assembly of the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organisation or UNPO held last month, NSCN-IM general secretary Thuingaleng Muivah said that after 22 years of intensive negotiations and signing of the historic Framework Agreement in August 2015, the Centre was now misinterpreted things.
Muivah in his speech said that the government of India had recognised the unique history and situation of the Nagas. He elaborated that by unique history here he meant that the Nagas have a history of Independence while unique situation meant that the situation in Nagalim was an act of aggression on Nagalim and not a law and order situation in India. Muivah stated that sovereignty of the Nagas lies with the Nagas and vice versa.
The top NSCN-IM leader also claimed that the government of India recognised the Nagas’ legitimate right of territorial integration of all Naga areas under one political roof. Muiviah further said that since the unique history of the Nagas and the sovereign right of the Nagas are recognised, it is understood that the Naga flag and constitution are ingredients of their sovereignty.
The NSCN-IM raised the issue of separate flag and constitution at the UNPO general assembly besides highlighting the Nagas’ legitimate right of territorial integration of all Naga areas under one political roof. This comes at a time when hopes continue for a solution to the protracted Naga political issue at the earliest with political leaders from the state admitting in the open that the demand for separate flag and constitution may not be practical.
