Good Friday prayers held, believers in Northeast remember Christ’s sacrifice

Today is Good Friday, an important day for the Christian community around the world. Good Friday marks the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. The day symbolizes the sacrifice made by Lord Jesus Christ for mankind. The crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his resurrection on Easter Sunday are the manifestations of the triumph of good over evil.

It is observed during the holy week on the Friday preceding Easter Sunday. Good Friday is also known as ‘Holy Friday’, ‘Great Friday’, ‘Great and Holy Friday’, and ‘Black Friday’. This year, it is being observed on April 15.

On ‘Good Friday’, Gangtok Church Youth Fellowship along with Social Service wing of EPCS Church Gangtok organised a Blood donation camp at EPCS Church premises where, around 40 church members donated blood.

Good Friday was also observed in the state capital of Nagaland, Kohima where people were seen participating in the Good Friday procession.

Meanwhile, taking to Twitter, PM Modi wrote, “We remember the courage and sacrifices of Jesus Christ today on Good Friday. His ideals of service and brotherhood are the guiding light for several people”.

Meanwhile, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh and Minister of Water Resources of Manipur Awanbow Newmai, extended Good Friday greetings to the people of Manipur.

On this day, members of many Christian denominations attend church services and observe fasts. In many countries, it is regarded as a holiday.
