Former Deputy Speaker of Nagaland Legislative Assembly T Yangseo Sangtam and former Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) working president and treasurer Bobby Panicker joined BJP.
This was confirmed by BJP Nagaland chief Benjamin Yepthomi through a X post.
Yepthomi in his post said that Bobby Panicker and T Yangseo Sangtam joined the party recently.
Yepthomi also mentioned that he met party’s general secretary BL Santhosh along with Nagaland BJP in charge and national secretary Anil K Antony in New Delhi on Tuesday and held detailed discussions with BL Santhosh about the party’s organisational activities in Nagaland over the past year. He also briefed him on the state’s performance in the first phase of the Sadasyata Abhiyan Membership Drive 2024.
T Yangseo Sangtam served as the Deputy Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly from 2022 to 2023.
In 2020, T Yangseo Sangtam won the by-election to 60 Pungro Kiphire Assembly as an independent candidate. He won the seat with a margin of 1,416 votes defeating independent candidate S Kiusumew Yimchunger and becoming MLA for the first time.
The by-election to the seat was necessitated after the demise of then-sitting NPF legislator T Torechu.
Earlier this year, Bobby Panicker was expelled from Congress membership for 6 years. NPCC president S Supongmeren Jamir said that the decision was taken on the basis of a DAC Report recommendation during an emergency meeting on January 27, 2024.
